Graphic Design Intern Nikki Engelmeier Radiates Joy in Everything She Does
The Deciding Factor takes pride in helping develop up-and-coming digital marketing experts. Unfortunately, we were unable to bring on interns for the last two summers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But now we’re ready to get back to normal with Nikki Engelmeier, our graphic design intern for summer 2022. Welcome to TDF, Nikki!
Choosing the Future
The graphic design major and marketing minor decided on her future career during a senior year art class at Mount Notre Dame High School. Nikki competed in a contest to create a teen safety driving billboard — and won first place!
“I was really proud of that billboard,” says Nikki. “It was surreal to see my work all around Hamilton County like that.”
When it came time to choose a college, she knew her dad is very loyal to the University of Cincinnati and expected her to go there. But after visiting UD she fell in love with the school and its exciting graphic design program.
“Luckily my brother went to UC, so my dad is satisfied,” she says. “UD is perfect for me because I’m a big family person and got to stay relatively close to home.”
At UD she’s learned a lot about branding and says her favorite project so far has been designing window installations of notable students and professors for the Women’s Center.
“I appreciated that assignment because it was the first time I had to deal with clients and a real deadline,” she says.
Learning New Skills at TDF
Nikki’s role at TDF will be supporting the design team by creating a variety of visual assets both print and digital. Her primary focus will be ideation and brainstorming, the creation of moodboards, design of banners for social media and ad campaigns, edits to print collateral, website and PowerPoint presentation updates, and more!
“We love Nikki’s energy and eagerness to learn new skills,” says Karen Meyers Holzer, President of The Deciding Factor. “She’s going to spend this summer helping us execute design across multiple mediums, learning about building relationships with clients and honing her overall skills. She really adds a positive spark to our design team.”
Staying Active and Combining Passions
What does Nikki do when she’s not hard at work contributing to the success of TDF’s design team? She stays active, loves hiking, biking and working out, and tries to radiate joy in everything she does.
In high school she was on the Dance Team and Cross Country Team. She’s also managed to combine that passion with her design major by interning with UD’s Athletic department at the beginning of 2022.
“I’m just a positive person and like to find the bright side in everything,” says Nikki.
